Viewpoint

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has created Jaish-e-Mohammed by working with several Deobandi terrorists associated with Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. Pakistani military justifies jihad in Kashmir as a legitimate part of its foreign policy. In December 1999, Harkat terrorists hijacked the Indian Airlines Flight 814 scheduled to fly from Kathmandu to Delhi, and diverted it to Kandahar. After they slit the throat of a passenger, Maulana Masood Azhar (cuurent head of JeM), Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, three Harkat operatives previously imprisoned in India were released. The released prisoners were escorted to Pakistan by the ISI and Masood Azhar was chosen to head the new group Jaish-e-Mohammed. The ISI is said to have paraded him on a victory tour through Pakistan to raise money for the new organisation. ISI built up the JeM to counter the growing power of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).US has now openly slammed Pakistan (Army/ISI) for its terror links and acknowledged Indian SF's relentless efforts in eliminating terrorists and maintaing peace in J&K.
