A day after Pakistan Rangers agreed to uphold ceasefire and maintain peace, the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major plan to push in militants into Jammu and Kashmir by discovering a 14-feet long tunnel originating from the other side of International Border (IB) in the Arnia Sector of Jammu division.

“On Saturday, just a day after Pakistan Rangers held a Sector Commander-level meeting with BSF in their area opposite Border Outpost Octroi on IB, alert troops of 62th Battalion detected an incomplete tunnel in the Arnia sector. Once again, the nefarious design of the Pakistan Rangers behind the friendly handshake has been exposed by alert BSF troops in the Arnia sector,” a BSF spokesman at Jammu said.

This followed regular inputs about the movement of anti-national elements across the border and suspected militant activities in the festive season to shatter the peace and tranquility in the Jammu region.

“While carrying out the search in the area ahead of the Border Security fence, BSF party observed suspicious movement on the bank of Dhamulla Nullah on the Pakistan side. Taking a risk, the party went to the area and got to know about the tunnel,” the spokesman said.

The BSF party found an unfinished tunnel, 12-14 feet in length, approximately three feet in height and 2.5 feet in width on the Indian side of Dhamulla Nullah. They also recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, food packets with Pakistan markings, US-made compass and other things from the unfinished tunnel.

“The digging tools, fresh-dug earth, and the length of the tunnel indicate that the tunneling started two to three days ago, with an intent to infiltrate a strong group of terrorists. Once again, the intent of Pakistan Rangers to push in anti-national elements has been exposed,” the BSF spokesman said.

The BSF has unearthed four tunnels on the IB in Jammu in the last one year. This year, two tunnels have been discovered, so far. This again gives an impression that Pakistan as a state sponsor of terror groups is untrustworthy till their Army is dismantled.
