Six top militant commanders, including LeT’s Abu Dujana, and Burhan Wani’s   successor Sabzar Ahmad Bhat of Hizbul Mujahideen, were among 132      terrorists killed in encounters with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir in  2017.

          As many as 132 terrorists have been killed in encounters with police and security forces in Kashmir Valley in over seven months in 2017.

          38 LeT militants were killed in over seven months till 09 Aug 2017.

          37 Hizb terrorists were eliminated along with 03 of the al-Qeada-linked Zakir      Musa group.

          54 unidentified militants were killed, mostly on the LoC.

          Most of the encounters took place in South Kashmir’s Pulwama, Shopian and         Anantnag, apart from Bandipora and Kupwara in North Kashmir and Budgam        in central Kashmir.

          In 2010, the highest number of 156 militants were neutralised in the first seven months of the year followed by 102 in 2017, 77 in 2016, 61 in 2011,        and 51 each in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Similarly, 43 militants were killed          in 2013 and 37 in 2012.

          Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Abu Dujana, a Pakistani national     wanted in connection with several terror attacks, and his aide, were gunned       down on 01 Aug 17 by security forces in Hakripora area of Pulwama district.

          On 01 Jul 17 top LeT commander Bashir Lashkari and militant Azad           Malik were killed in a firefight with security forces in Anantnag’s Brenti village     of Dialgam belt in south Kashmir. Lashkari was involved in the killing of six        policemen in the district’s Acchabal area on June 16.

          28 May 17 top Hizb militant Sabzar Ahmad Bhat, 27, who was a close        associate of slain Hizb commander Burhan Wani, was among two militants killed in an encounter in Tral, in south Kashmir.

          12 Jul 17, Sajad Gilkar was among three Hizb militants killed by security      forces in Budgam district of central Kashmir.

          14 Feb 17 top LeT commander Abu Haris was killed in Bandipora. (n)  22 Apr 17 Abul Ali in Budgam.

          15 Mar 17 Abul Mala, Anis Bhai and Abu Mansoor of LeT were killed in      Kupwara.

          03 Jan 17 Abu Umar of LeT was killed in Sopore.

          10 Jan 17 Abu Maviya was shot dead in Bandipora.

          09 Mar 17 Sher Gujri was killed in Pulwama.
