MEHBOOBA'S ELEVEN GIRLS TO PLAY CRICKET IN AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY
The 11 shortlisted J&K girls are set to play for legendary Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist’s side in the exhibition match scheduled
to be played at New Delhi on June 19. The will be followed by an interaction with Adam Gilchrist.
The interaction is being coordinated by Advisor to Chief Minister,
Prof Amitabh Mattoo.
Besides, a T20 cricket match is also being played between J&K CM’s-XI and G M College Delhi in the Australian Embassy Ground here on
June 19 which would be followed by interaction with Gilchrist in the Conference Hall of Delhi University.
The J&K side is set to be captained by Australian great Adam Gilchrist. The team will have players from the staff members of the Australian
High Commission and young cricketers from Jammu and Kashmir.
The match would be conducted by Government of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with Australia India
Institute and Australian High Commission. The match is scheduled to be followed by talk on life of sportsman by Adam Gilchrist.
For the match State Cricket Academy
has shortlisted 11 female cricketers who all have got decent cricketing background and have represented State in various national level events. The 11-member J&K contingent will leave for Delhi.
The shortlisted players include, Bushra Ashraf , Abraq Zahoor, Sheeraza Banoo, Meenaz Khaliq, Saima Rashid , Asra, Farkhandha Khan , Sarla Devi, Jaspreet Kour, Sonika, and Lalita Kumari. The team includes seven cricketers
from Kashmir and four from Jammu. It would be playing under coach Abida Khan while the J&K contingent would be accompanied by Secretary Sports Council Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, Director State Cricket Academy, Mubashir Hassan and Divisional Sports Officer
Kashmir Nusrat Ara.
Giving details about the event and selection procedure, Mubashir Hassan said, “We got the invitation from Prof. Amitabh Mattoo Advisor to
Chief Minister and in which we were offered to play cricket match in New Delhi for Adam Gilchrist side against Delhi University team. It is exhibition match that would be followed by talk on the life of a cricketer by the Australian great” “Despite
having busy schedule Prof. Amitabh Mattoo is closely monitoring all the arrangements at New Delhi .
“We have shortlisted players who have been doing well for
State in national cricket arena over the years. We don’t know how many will play in the match but it would be atleast five,” Mubashir said.
He said that
more than match it will be interaction and listening to former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist which is important aspect of this trip.
“It would be great
motivating factor for our youngsters to listen to the real life story of Gilchrist. He is International personality who has risen from scratch to one of the top cricketing star that has ever set foot on the pitch. The players will listen to his story and it
will be great motivating factor. I am confident the session with Gilchrist will boost their morale for the future,” he added.
Coach Abida Khan who will be with
the team for the match, said,” It is dream chance for all of us to be part of the Gilchrist’s team. He is legendary cricketer and it is dream come true for all of us to be part of this venture”.
“We are aware about the nature of the match and we are more interested in listening to Gilchrist while he will talk about his cricketing journey, filled with many ups and downs. It will be interesting and all of
us looking forward to hear him talk about his journey,” she added.
